Tellico OHV Area - 3 - 4 hours away and near Murphy, NC, 100 miles south of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, Tellico offers a variety of challenging trails perfect for the advanced rider.
Located in the Nantahala National Forest, where the terrain is as rugged as anything on the east coast, Tellico boasts over 40 miles of technical trails to cover.
Tellico is made up of 12 numbered trails, ranging in difficulty from easy to "don't try this without a winch." 4x4 riders with a lot of experience might want to test their skills on Trails 2 and 11.
Definitely not for the faint of heart, they require ultra-low speeds and feature nearly impossible terrain. Sprinkled with rocks, the upper part of trail 2 is known as the Bobsled Run and the tail end is called the Rock Garden.
The trail includes some sheer drop-offs that will leave you with wide eyes and white knuckles.
To keep vehicles from launching off its rock faces, Trail 11 sprouts guardrails affixed to trees along its treacherous route.
